I built Ink & Inference because choosing a book shouldn’t take longer than reading one.
I’m a reader.
And somewhere along the way, I realised I was spending an absurd amount of time trying to decide what to read next.
I would browse. I’d look at ratings. I’d read reviews. I’d save recommendations. I’d add books to my TBR.
And sometimes, after all that, I’d finally pick a book, only to discover that the book everyone seemed to love wasn’t really for me.
That frustration stayed with me.
Because the problem wasn’t that there weren’t enough good books.
There were too many books, and too many ways of deciding what was supposedly worth reading.
A good book isn’t necessarily the right book for you.
A book can have thousands of glowing reviews and still leave you wondering what everyone else saw in it.
Another book can be relatively unknown, imperfectly rated, or simply overlooked — and become one of the books you remember for years.
I’ve experienced both.
And the more I read, the more I became interested in a different question:
What if finding a book was less about finding the most highly rated book, and more about finding the book that makes sense for you?
So I started looking into whether other readers felt the same way.
I began collecting and analysing what readers were actually saying when books disappointed them — and what authors were saying when they struggled to reach readers.
The patterns were striking.
What I believe
I don’t think readers need more lists telling them what everyone else loved.
I think we need better ways of understanding what we might love.
And I don’t think authors should have to shout louder simply to be discovered.
There should be better ways for books and the readers who would genuinely appreciate them to find one another.
That’s what I’m exploring with Ink & Inference.

Ink & Inference was built by an independent researcher with a background in data science and product development, by a reader who believes that the habit of reading makes all of us more curious and more grounded, and that the joy of reading becomes richer when it’s shared.
